At NGAM we teach the art of American Kenpo considered by many to be the original Mixed Martial Art. This is a common misconception as Kenpo is a combative art and not a sport. Kenpo does combine all the aspects of MMA as far as it is one of the few arts that combines all phases of fighting into one unique art. In the 1950s Edmund K. Parker saw the need to combine the arts and break free of traditional Martial Arts. The arts he founded combines Boxing, Wing Chung, Arnis, Chu'an Fa, Shotokan, Judo and Jiu Jitsu among the other modern arts to form a singular a combative art.
As stated before we teach Ed Parker's American Kenpo Karate as well as the original Kenpo Fusion as formulated by Senior Grandmaster Frank Trejo. This is another system that was mocked in it's inception, but Mr. Parker endorsed it and now it's former detractors emulate it and even use the same name. It was developed by SGM Trejo from his vast sporting background combined with his practical real world experience.
Here at NGMA we will not exaggerate as some do in this town since there is no need. Some claim to have been in service to the community up to 4 times longer than they have been in the community based upon how long their style has been in existence. Mr. Fitzgerald has been working with church groups and youth groups since 2002 in Volusia County itself. Since he has worked with law enforcement and military men. Recently he has been working with those seeking a more simple self defense. The fact is if you want to state how long this form of Martial Arts has been serving the world, which is more accurate than others claim the community, we have been serving the worldwide community with practical hybrid self defense for over 60 years. Others have copied our methodology and have been claiming success based upon the proficiency demonstrated by American Kenpo Practitioners. You know what they say though, imitation is the highest form of flattery.
For more information on the origins of Kenpo and it's formulation please check out our About Page.
